About Speech Pathology

What is Speech Pathology?

Speech Pathologists help people who may be experiencing challenges in their ability to communicate with other people, use their voice, manage mealtimes and meet their social needs.

What approach do we use at Good Earth Therapy?

We use a neuroaffirming approach. This is a strengths based, inclusive approach that recognises different neurotypes such as Dyslexia or ADHD as being a valid and natural variation rather than something that needs to be fixed or changed. We recognise the myriad of neurotypes that exist under the neurodivergence umbrella. We do not use compliance based or behavioural based training approaches.

We do not believe that spoken speech (mouth words) is the most valid form of communication. We recognise that for many Autistic and disabled people this is not an appropriate tool. We value all forms of communication by supporting use of all mediums and alternative methods - such as AAC, gestures, key word sign or pen to paper.

We use child - led, play and interest based therapy when we support children. This means we drawn on your child's strengths and interests, rather than encouraging them to engage in play they do not find joy in.

We work with individuals and families to understand more about what could be important and appropriate goals for you or your child within your community, culture and family context.
